gallons of turkey soup. gone, all gone!

usually we trim our tree (a fake one because of sky's allergies) the first day or so of november. but since pants was gone and we were all a bit tired, we waited until this past weekend. so sunday night we got the boys bathed and pajama-fied, turned up the holiday music, broke out the eggnog (using the special glasses that sky calls 'holy grail cups' because of their shape), and got all ready for some tree trimmin'.
and that's when pants and i realized...we didn't have a tree.
we had taken down boxes and boxes from the attic, assuming some were filled with ornaments/decorations and some held the tree parts. but after digging through all the boxes...no tree. hmm. then we remembered that the tree had broken after christmas last year, and we had gotten rid of it. and hadn't replaced it yet. oops.
so instead we trimmed the mini-trees the boys keep in their rooms, and put up the other decorations. the next evening, pants came home with a tree purchased from the lovely home depot, and we are now ready for the holidays with our tree up and running:
for some reason, i get all martha stewart about the christmas tree. i like it to have a really pulled-together, matchy look - no homespun crafty or sentimental ornaments here (those all go on the kids' trees). the last few years i have done a turquoise, green, and silver theme, but wanted a change this time around. so we went for more of a rustic feel, with fake fruit in purples, reds, and gold, wooden beaded garland, and a rusted metal star on top. (i had gotten these all on clearance at target last year after christmas.) i did throw on some green shiny ornaments at the end, though - couldn't resist.

okay I have christmas envy now.

i agree about the tree thing - maybe this year we will get 2 trees. a kid one with all the kid decco's and a martha type one.

big daddy will love you for this idea : )

dmoms - you should do it! you could always use mini-trees (like 2 feet tall or so) and keep one in each kids' room, so it doesn't drive big daddy too crazy :)
laurie - i will say that it does definitely help that pants is so into christmas, too. and that he is the one who gets down the boxes and sets up the tree. and we cheated this year and got a tree that already had lights on it :)

Your tree is gorgeous! I can't wait to put ours up, but this year I have to wait because we're getting new carpet so I must wait until that is installed. I also agree with the Martha Stewart tree, but we have so many hallmark ornaments that those end up on it as well.

I also put up a tree in the kitchen that is decorated with a candy theme.

We love the holidays I will post pictures on my blog once we have everything all up.

Once again your tree is beautiful. Oh, and good idea with the pre-lit tree what a wonderful invention!

Love the Christmas blog great idea!

The candy theme tree is a lot of fun. I'm so crazy when it comes to decorating for Christmas each room is a different theme. But it is so much fun and it's only one time a year. The tree was relatively inexpensive and the decorations that I used came from Kmart as part of the Martha Stewart line. I will post a pic of Carson in front of the tree last year. This year I'm so afraid to put my trees up because our little Emma just loves to investigate everything!
Here is the link to Kmart so you can see the Martha Stewart stuff. Also each year they have a stuffed teddy bear with the year on it I think it is fun to get one of those each year.

I hope that the link works I haven't ever posted one on here before.
